Born in Northern Ireland 1986, Helena Hamilton grew up in the North Antrim Coastal area. Hamilton studied at the University of Ulster where she gained a BA Honours degree in Fine and Applied Arts in 2009. After graduating she continued to live and work as an artist in Belfast having been awarded a year long ‘Student Graduate Residency’ in Flax Art Studios. After the completion of this residency in September 2010 Hamilton returned to the North Antrim area to construct a log cabin in a woodland, this space is used to withdraw from the everyday when creating new ideas. Currently she is based in Belfast. It is from here that Hamilton will travel to Martignano, Italy to complete a three month residency (May, June, July) at ‘Martignano International Residency for Artists’ (MIRA), funded by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland.
Helena’s artistic career is unfolding and continues to build further momentum; already having had numerous successful exhibitions in Belfast, with her work reaching throughout Ireland, to London and as far as New York.

Hypnotised by this municipal jungle and with a growing feeling of perplexity, the individual is led away to have a conversation with their soul...”
