This drawing was created whilst on a 2 month residency in Tokyo, the original was exhibited as part of Hamilton's solo exhibition 'Semblance and Event', 2018.

Study I, Study II is a machine drawing in ink on fine-grain paper. This work was originally drawn by hand and then digitised so it could be physically drawn multiple times by a pen plotter. Playing between the physical and digital, machine and human-made, is a consistent theme in Helena's work.

It is part of a series of machine drawings through which the artist is exploring minimal structure and form, first composing the work physically before digitizing it so that the pen plotter can 'read' the original drawing and copy it multiple times. Though this work is part of an edition, each machine drawing is unique and has the potential for marginal variation.
